Cesare Fratino

Born in Milan in 1886, he studied at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts under Giuseppe Mentessi and Cesare Tallone.  In 1912 his painting Leda won the Gavazzi prize for a picture with a historical-mythological subject.
In 1913 he moved to Rome for three years, and made a series of architectural engravings which were exhibited in the capital and subsequently in Milan, London, and New York. In 1920 he won a competition to decorate the vault of the Scalzi Church in Venice.
From 1912 he exhibited in Rome, at all the Venice Bienniali, and at the Nazionali in Milan. He executed some major architectural projects and was appointed lecturer in perspective at the Scuola Superiore di Architettura in Milan. He designed a number of stage sets for La Scala in Milan.
He died in Milan in 1969.
