Luigi Litta
Born in Ferrara in 1813, he spent his youth in Milan and attended the Brera Academy of Fine Arts.
In 1848 he moved to Intra and taught drawing in local schools for many years; he was the first art teacher of Daniele Ranzoni. He painted views, portraits, and historical pictures; his miniatures were in demand as far away as England.
Between 1854 and 1858 he made twelve engravings of the most important views of Intra , which were printed in the town as the Collection of the principal views of Intra drawn from life and engraved by Luigi Litta.
His work shows the new trend, introduced in Milan by Giovanni Migliara and continued by Angelo Inganni, of updating the genre of “view” with the latest news from the town, which gave the painting the character of a historic document.
Litta died in Intra in 1891.
