Fact sheet 1 - Villa Poss in Verbania

The building’s structure is unsound, the tower has fallen down, the infiltration of water is beginning to seriously damage the bearing walls. If remedial action is not taken quickly, the villa will be doomed in a short time to total ruin, wiping out a prime example of an aristocratic nineteenth century mansion with its grounds.
The fact is that Villa Poss can be regarded as the classic representative of the large number of villas with gardens which were built on Lake Maggiore in the 19th and early 20th centuries.  This paradigmatic status derives from the quality of its architectural and botanical features,  its history of prominent residents, and its major value in terms of landscape.

An intervention to save the Villa, and put it to good use, must be implemented without delay. At the Museo del Paesaggio we are sure that the best solution would be to turn the Villa into a cultural centre.
As far back as 2000, the Museo del Paesaggio drew up a plan designed to refurbish the Villa for this purpose.  However, financial backers must be found who can understand the huge opportunity that a wise, far-sighted use of Villa Poss would represent, on a scale transcending purely local interests. Action must be taken quickly before yet more predatory property speculation manages to ruin one more place on Lake Maggiore, and one of such enormous prestige.
