Archivio Ville e Giardini
The Villa and Garden Archive is a section of the Landscape Study Centre which conducts research into the system of villas and gardens that was a feature of the western shore of Lake Maggiore at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries. The aims of the Villa and Garden Archive are to collect, study and publish documentation relating to the various aspects of this heritage. The research involves professionals such as architects, botanists, art historians and archivists. |
Since 2003 the Archive’s activities have extended to include the whole of Piedmont. A convention drawn up by the Piedmont Region, the Province of Verbano Cusio Ossola and the Museo del Paesaggio gives the Museum the task of assisting in the application of Regional Law no. 22/83, “Interventions for the safeguard and development of areas of botanical interest”. Having completed its survey of the territory of the Verbano Cusio Ossola Province, the Villa and Garden Archive has accordingly started cataloguing and studying the historic gardens of botanical interest in the other provinces of Piedmont.
The work of the Villa and Garden Archive is also embodied in exhibitions, publications and conferences. |
