| We not only offer a range of musical performances, but we also aim to foster an appreciation of music: among other initiatives, we proposed and subsequently completed a musical appreciation cycle on Chopin and in 1989, to mark the centenary of Daniele Ranzonis birth, the painter who was a native of Verbania, we organised a series of meetings on cultural production, in the widest sense of the term, in 19th-century Intra (the name given to Verbania until 1939). |
 |
All our activities stem from the fact that this city has always boasted a musical culture: the choral association from the Parish of S. Vittore and a number of organists from our small town were already well known in the 18th century. |
|
And they had ambitious plans: if a special musical score was required at religious services, soloists were invited from Milan to accompany the organ, trumpets were obligatory at Christmas, and more than one instrument was always present for the patron saints day of San Vittore; special occasions were enlivened by performances of Carro di Tespi and operas that were staged in the old Teatro Sociale of Intra.
Every concert that we organised has involved the entire province of Verbano Cusio Ossola and all the schools, in particular those specialising in music (Verbania itself has a flourishing music school: the Ranzoni middle school).
The winter season (late October to late April) is currently flanked by a summer season (July, August) entitled Notturni in Val Grande. This programme of events has been developed in collaboration with that Mountain Community and the Municipality of Cambiasca in order to allow concerts to be held in the mountain villages of our hinterland. The events are designed to encourage tourists (mainly foreigners) to take advantage of the holidays to take their first steps towards (or develop) a knowledge of classical music. The concerts are almost always chamber music.
The Verbania Musica association aims to promote musical and artistic initiatives in general in order to enhance the cultural development of those living in the province of Verbano Cusio Ossola, including both residents and tourists visiting the area. The association is also careful to develop the best conditions for artists and the public, to assess new proposals and implement repertoires that respond to the needs of both musicians and listeners. |
