Paolo Troubetzkoy’s Sculptures Traveling to Paris and Milan

From the Museo del Paesaggio in Verbania, 43 sculptures by Paolo Troubetzkoy are heading to the Musée d’Orsay in Paris for the major monographic exhibition dedicated to the Russian artist: Paul Troubetzkoy. Le prince sculpteur. The exhibition will run from September 30, 2025 to January 11, 2026 and represents an important opportunity for international visibility for the museum and its collection.

The exhibition will have a double venue: after the Paris stage, the works will also be on display in Milan at the Galleria d’Arte Moderna (GAM) from February 27 to June 28, 2026.

In preparation for this prestigious appointment in the French capital, the sculptures underwent a meticulous restoration process, carried out in the museum’s galleries and shared with the Verbanese public.

A New Display in Verbania

During the temporary absence of the 43 sculptures, visitors will be able to discover a selection of about thirty works by Troubetzkoy, usually kept in the museum’s storage. This will be an opportunity to relive stories and impressions through the renewed display, offering new insights into the celebrated prince sculptor.

The first gallery is dedicated to Paris, the city where Troubetzkoy lived and worked in close contact with the cultural and social elite. Here, visitors will encounter portraits of members of the Parisian high society whom the artist knew and frequented.

Another gallery is devoted to Indians and cowboys, subjects that fascinated Troubetzkoy from an early age. His interest was sparked in 1891, when he attended the American Circus of Buffalo Bill in Milan, which brought the legendary atmosphere of the Far West to Europe.

Among the most significant works on display is the monumental sculpture of Jean Bugatti driving his automobile (1929), a striking testimony to the intersection between art and the history of automotive design.
