Paintings

The Landscape Museum has a large collection of paintings displayed in temporary exhibitions set out on the Palazzo Viani Dugnani’s piano nobile which also permanently hosts the Affreschi del Quattrocento (the 15th century fresco room)

The paintings primarily date to the second half of the 19th century and the early 20th century and frequently feature Verbano’s lake and mountain landscape and the areas around it.

The artists included are the Scapigliato Daniele Ranzoni and his first teacher Luigi Litta; the Romanticist mountain’s painter Federico Ashton; exponents of the Lombardo naturalist school such as Achille Tominetti, Eugenio Gignous, Guido Boggiani; Arnaldo Ferraguti of the Verism school; the Symbolist Sophie Browne in Valle di Casanova; Divisionist school work by, amongst others, Vittore Grubicy De Dragon, Carlo Fornara, Cesare Maggi and Guido Cinotti;  and certain Novecento school masters including Siro Penagini and Mario Tozzi.
