Natura Amphibia
opening day august 1st at 6.30 PMCasa Ceretti Laboratorio per l'Arte, via Roma 42 Verbania

From August 1 to September 7, 2025, the Museo del Paesaggio in Verbania presents Natura Amphibia, a comprehensive solo exhibition by artist Andrea Pescio, curated by Susanna Borlandelli.
The exhibition unfolds across two venues:
-
Casa Ceretti – Laboratorio per l’Arte (via Roma 42), which hosts the main body of the exhibition
-
Palazzo Viani Dugnani (via Ruga 44), the museum’s historic headquarters and home to its permanent collection
The opening event will take place on Friday, August 1 at 6:30 PM at Casa Ceretti.
Natura Amphibia spans two decades of artistic production (2005–2025) and features works created primarily with BIC pens, on canvas and leather. The exhibition includes around twenty large-format pieces at Casa Ceretti and four selected works at Palazzo Viani Dugnani, displayed in dialogue with the temporary exhibition Air Water Earth. From Environment to Landscape and the museum’s permanent collection.
Recurring themes in Pescio’s visual language include the aquatic environment, the female figure, metamorphosis, and duality. His works depict beings emerging from fluid, layered settings where reflection and superimposition give rise to ambiguous and evocative images. The term amphibious not only refers to water but also suggests duality, mirrored identity, and the coexistence of opposites—a universe suspended between reality and myth, body and symbol.
Among the highlights are Heavy Tradition (2013), a visual meditation on the weight of European cultural heritage, and the previously unseen Studio per Baby Gang, a monumental leather piece that ideally concludes the exhibition, connecting with work previously shown at the Castello di Novara in 2024.
The use of the BIC pen—both a technical and stylistic hallmark of the artist—evolves over time, from an expressive, overlapping stroke to a more refined, controlled line, enriched with decorative elements and miniatures, partly inspired by experiences in Asia.
With Natura Amphibia, the Museo del Paesaggio launches, for the first time, an exhibition during the month of August—an unprecedented cultural offering for both local audiences and visitors to Lake Maggiore. This initiative is part of the museum’s broader commitment to supporting contemporary artists active in the region.
During the exhibition, the monograph Andrea Pescio, curated by Raul Capra and published by Italgrafica, will be available for purchase at Libreria Alberti in Intra and at Palazzo Viani Dugnani in Pallanza.
