“The Shining Gaze: Media Landscapes in the Age of AI” is the exhibition by Davide Maria Coltro, set up at Palazzo Viani Dugnani, curated by Elena Pontiggia. The display features works that explore the artist’s investigation into the genre of landscape painting, from the Quadri Mediali (Media Paintings) of the early 2000s to new works created specifically for the exhibition.
Coltro’s media works will engage in a dialogue with the permanent collection of Palazzo Viani Dugnani, divided into two sections. The first section showcases landscapes where the setting is more visible and recognizable, stemming from reflections on Italian and European pictorial movements between the 19th and 20th centuries, a period of art history with significant conceptual connections between the media of that time and current digital ones. Three historic Quadri Mediali from 2003, from the collection of the patron and gallerist Pietro Gagliardi, will greet visitors—dynamic canvases with an endless flow of digital paintings that intertwine and form new combinations. From this ever-changing media flow, the artist collects traces that become unique works, objects with varying aspects such as digital prints or installations of imaginary libraries.
The second section presents new works created specifically for the exhibition at the Museum of Landscape. To generate these media flows, the artist has created landscapes as stages for extreme natural events, using artificial intelligence in the process of electronic painting.
