From 30 May to 1 November 2026, the Museo del Paesaggio in Verbania presents Terre Inquiete (“Restless Lands”), a major solo exhibition by Tullio Pericoli, curated by Elena Pontiggia and installed in the rooms of Palazzo Viani Dugnani.

The exhibition brings together 50 works, half of which are previously unseen, guiding visitors into the artist’s visual universe, where landscape becomes narrative, memory, and tension. It offers a profound reflection on the fragility and transformations of the contemporary world.

Terre Inquiete showcases a significant selection from Pericoli’s artistic research, which has always been centered on the theme of nature. However, these are not traditional landscapes: landscape becomes an expressive language, a tool for interpreting reality.

As the artist explains, his aim is not to faithfully represent the world, but to filter it through painting, conveying sensations, unease, and reflections on the present. His works suggest more than they describe: even the titles provide open clues, leaving viewers free to complete their meaning. The exhibition highlights the evolution of Pericoli’s visual language: from early compositions to more recent works, an increasing fragmentation of the landscape emerges, along with a growing sense of tension.

According to curator Elena Pontiggia, this is a form of painting that moves beyond traditional naturalism to become a conceptual vision, where places and forms are reimagined in symbolic and contemporary terms. Within the Italian art scene, Pericoli stands out for his approach to nature, which departs from 19th-century realism and engages directly with the challenges of the present.

The exhibition also enters into dialogue with the Museum’s Picture Gallery, which houses important examples of painting from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, from Arnaldo Ferraguti to Guido Boggiani and Eugenio Gignous. This comparison highlights the shift from a naturalistic representation of landscape to a more contemporary, free, and introspective interpretation.
